| | Q | How big are the badges/medals?
| | A | The medals have a diameter of 5cms and the badges are approx. 2cms.
| | Q | Can you use sand instead of gravel?
| | A | We recommend gravel as it makes it a more exciting activity for the children to find the gold nuggets.
| | Q | How do you set up the goods and how do the children get the prizes?
| | A | Setting Up
- Empty 1 bag of gravel into each of the box containers, spreading the gravel so it's evenly distributed along the bottom of the container.
- Add a few pieces of the tiny gold nuggets in with the gravel.
- Now add water into each container. 1" to 2" (4 to 5 cm). Water level should be just above the gravel. If you don't want to carry the container to the nearest water supply then fill a bucket of water and take it to where you have situated the container.
- If available place a plastic table cloth (or other covering) over the table and position the box containers at the front of the table for easy reach.
- Display the prizes (gold medals or gold badges) on the table
- Display your selling prices
How the activity works
- Parent/Child pay to pan for gold (it's best if customers pay before commencing the activity, to avoid the confusion of who has paid and who has not).
- Once they have paid they are handed a stainless steel sieving pan which they can use to sieve through the gravel to find the tiny gold nugget pieces.
- The child sieves through the gravel until they have found 6 pieces of gold. (Please note that the child should hold onto each piece of gold until they have collected all 6 pieces). Once they have handed 6 pieces of gold to you, you can present them with their prize.
- This activity has been timed for approximately 7 to 10 minutes for each child to find 6 pieces. Although we have done our own tests, we would appreciate your feedback.
If you want to lower the time it takes for each child to complete the activity simply add a few more pieces of tiny gold nuggets. To increase the time it takes to do the activity take some gold pieces out.
| | Q | Do they need the lids for sieving troughs?
